{"id":336,"date":"2013-06-12T12:31:46","date_gmt":"2013-06-12T16:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intactmarketing.com\/?p=336"},"modified":"2015-01-31T22:49:19","modified_gmt":"2015-02-01T03:49:19","slug":"facebook-introduces-searchable-hashtags","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intactmarketing.com\/newsite\/facebook-introduces-searchable-hashtags\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook Introduces Searchable Hashtags"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.fb.com\/News\/633\/Public-Conversations-on-Faceboo\" target=\"_blank\">on a blog post<\/a>, Facebook announced that they are rolling out\u00a0<strong>searchable hashtags<\/strong>\u00a0as well more features in an effort to play a greater role in real-time public conversations.<\/p>\n<p>Not that you couldn\u2019t include\u00a0<strong>hashtags on Facebook<\/strong>\u00a0before, they just weren\u2019t linkable as it is on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, or Pinteres.<\/p>\n<p>From now users will be able to click a hashtag to see a feed of discussions about a particular topic. For example, typing a number sign in front of &#8220;beaches&#8221; or &#8220;dinner&#8221; will turn the words into a link that users can click on to find posts about beaches or dinners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Starting today you can:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Search for a specific hashtag from your search bar. For example, #FloridaBeaches<\/li>\n<li>Click on hashtags that originate on other services, such as Instagram.<\/li>\n<li>Compose posts directly from the hashtag feed and search results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>As always, you control the audience for your posts, including those with hashtags.<\/strong>\u00a0From a privacy perspective, hashtags will work similarly to Facebook Graph Search. In other words, you\u2019ll only see the comments that you\u2019re authorized to see. So if you include a hashtag in a friends-only post, then your friends will still be the\u00a0<strong>ONLY<\/strong>\u00a0ones who can see it in a hashtag search. (And this is the main difference between\u00a0<strong>Facebook hashtag<\/strong>\u00a0usage and other network services.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is Facebook\u2019s explanation behind the change:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Every day, hundreds of millions of people use Facebook to share their thoughts on big moments happening all around them. Whether it\u2019s talking about a favorite television show, cheering on a hometown sports team or engaging with friends during a breaking news event\u2014people on Facebook connect with their friends about what\u2019s taking place all over the world. \u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>To bring these conversations more to the forefront, we will be rolling out a series of features that surface some of the interesting discussions people are having about public events, people, and topics. As a first step, we are beginning to roll out hashtags on Facebook.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Don\u2019t have the Facebook hashtag feature yet?<\/h3>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry! Keep in mind that Facebook is only \u201cbeginning to roll out\u201d the hashtag.
